When Ukrainian Olympic star Abramenko and his teammates find themselves in need because of the war, his Swiss Aerials buddies led by Andreas Isoz set up an aid project. As part of the Zurich marathon, they now want to raise awareness and financial support for their mission.
What started as a gesture of solidarity within our community has turned into a mission. To date, my team and I have delivered 11 shipments of aid to Ukraine, with the tireless support of my good friend and Ukrainian Aerials national coach, Enver Ablaev.
With the next delivery, which is planned for the beginning of May 2024 and includes an ambulance, we want to support the hospitals in Kherson and Zaporizhia in particular. We are particularly keen to support children and young people in Zaporizhzhya, a city near a large nuclear power plant and right on the front line.
A few months ago, I challenged myself and promised two friends that I would run the Zurich Marathon. While my goal is to complete the marathon, I would already be overjoyed to complete at least 25 kilometers.
Tens of thousands are losing their lives in Ukraine. Every one of the fallen and every one of their relatives would love to swap places with me and run a marathon. This perspective motivates me to take a somewhat humble look at the world when faced with my own problems. Without a guilty conscience - but with the motivation to be able to make a small contribution!
