Background

The Joël Kinderspitex children’s foundation looks after and cares for more than 200 seriously ill, disabled or dying children in 19 cantons across Switzerland as well as in the Principality of Liechtenstein. With around 200 employees and more than 60,000 hours of care provided every year, it is the biggest outpatient care service in Switzerland. It offers specialist care services over a set period of time as defined with the insurance partners. Looking after their child places huge demands on the parents’ time. The children’s outpatient care service provides parents with some respite for a few hours or days by taking over the responsibilities for childcare. The costs are covered by the foundation or by donations from the patronage associations O.ch and Joël Mühlemann, or by private individuals, foundations, parishes and companies. The donations are important, because unfortunately many services which are urgently required are not financed either by health insurance, disability insurance, or municipalities or cantons.

Idea

The WG Kunterbunt is a project funded by donations which is aimed at families whose children are already being cared for by the Joël Kinderspitex children’s foundation. Over the course of six long weekends from Friday evening to Sunday evening, families can put their child in the care of experienced nurses. The WG Kunterbunt helps parents to recharge their batteries and find new strength for the challenging task of looking after their children, and frees up time to spend with their healthy children.

Implementation

A maximum of six children are supervised and cared for around the clock by a team of qualified nurses as well as a chef. As well as general day-to-day hygiene, nutrition, movement exercises and nursing tasks such as suctioning, cannulation and PEG treatment, there’s still time for playing and going on excursions in the local area.
The cost of these six long weekends adds up to around CHF 112,000. Financing has been secured for around 55% of the expenses. This leaves around CHF 50,000 still in need of funding.
Your donations are used directly by WG Kunterbunt to cover the various expenses:

CHF 35 covers a day’s supply of care products

CHF 70 covers the cost of a main meal

CHF 100 covers the cost of the on-call staff who spend the night at the WG and supports the night staff where necessary

CHF 150 covers a visit to the zoo, including ice creams for the whole group

CHF 300 covers the cost of a chef for 3 days

Your donations make it possible for families with a child who needs special care to have some free time for a few days. This hard-earned free time is important and valuable in order for parents to recharge their batteries, spend time with their other children and enjoy some quality time together as a couple – safe in the knowledge that their child is in good hands and is being excellently looked after at the WG Kunterbunt.

What a joy! Thank you very much for your donation! Your support allows two families with a child in need of special care a few days of freedom.

The WG Kunterbunt is a donation-financed offer and is aimed at families whose children are already being cared for by the Joël Kinderspitex Foundation. During six extended weekends per year, from Friday evening to Sunday evening, families can place their child in the care of experienced Pﬂegefachpersonen. The WG Kunterbunt helps parents to recharge their batteries and gain momentum for the intensive care of their children or to spend time with healthy siblings.

Thanks to your support, we can make it possible for two children to spend a weekend in the WG Kunterbunt. On behalf of our young clients and their families, our employees and the Foundation Board, we would like to thank you very much for your donation.

Quality of life is of course not only a question of money.
