Future for Streetchildren

Many thanks for your support, which meant we were able to complete the project successfully.
Project SummaryThe Kipepeo Family Foundation is dedicated to the "Future for Street Children" project, which aims to give street children in Moshi, Tanzania, a better future through confidence building, family reunification and education.

Background

In Moshi, Kilimanjaro region (Tanzania), many children live on the streets, often boys, while girls work in households or prostitute themselves. Many of these children still have living family members and have fled their homes for various reasons, such as lack of basic services or abuse. Begging, drug abuse and child labour are part of their everyday lives. But street children are so much more than children living on the streets. They have potential, creativity, courage, humour and so much that enriches our world.

Idea

The core concept of the project is to give the street children confidence and hope through regular meals together. In a second step, the "School for All" project aims to reunite the children with their families and offer them educational opportunities to get them off the streets and give them new prospects in life.

Implementation

So far, the project has already helped ten boys to find a new perspective by integrating them into various educational programmes and vocational training, such as truck driving, carpentry or mechanics. The work continues with a new group of younger boys, providing meals on the street every fortnight and building trust. The focus remains on family reunification and education.
This crowddonating project aims to cover the costs of schooling or vocational training and boarding or training centres for up to five children. The costs for the first year of this education amount to CHF 2,500. In addition, CHF 343 will be spent on catering for 15 boys, who will receive a meal every fortnight for a year.

Initiators

I, Joy Baumann, founded the social organisation Kipepeo Family Foundation together with the local Nixon Simba. Together with our local team, we are passionately committed to a more sustainable future for families in Tanzania.
All members of my team have experienced in their own childhood what it is like to live on the streets and grow up in an orphanage. I personally believe that no one could understand and solve the problems we face in our work here in Tanzania better than them.
"I believe that if my parents had been supported, I would have had a much better childhood. I want to do everything I can to improve the lives of the children here in Tanzania and I believe that the way to do that is to support their families." Nixon Simba, founder

11 boys receive support

We are currently working actively with a group of 11 boys. Twice a month we meet them in the evening in the city to have dinner with them on the street. This helps us to get to know the individual boys and build trust.

Every Monday, our team is out on the street. We always meet the boys at the same meeting point. Here, the boys have the opportunity to take advantage of one-to-one counselling. The aim is to work with them to find a way off the streets and find solutions for the future. This includes listening to and acknowledging their stories, coming to terms with the past, counselling, mentoring, learning from mistakes and much more.
Specifically, we have already experienced the following in 2024:

- Shukuru: We visited his stepfather at home and were able to find Shukuru's mum and visit her too. He was able to spend a few days at home with his mum.
- Michael: Would like to do an apprenticeship as a welder and has made contact with his stepfather. He would be interested. We have also found Michael's father, who has agreed to take him in and look after him during the holidays.
- Selemani: Has been attending a vocational school since February 2024 and was accompanied by his uncle when he started.
- Daniel: We visited his home with him and made contact with his family. His wish would be to become a chef.
- Brian: He would like to attend a vocational school to become a car mechanic. We made contact with his family. He is welcome at his grandmother's house.
- Amani: He has received support from us for a potato business.
- Rakim: We visited his grandmother at home. He would like to reconcile with his father and has asked us for support.
- Paulo: He is a young adult and wants to be supported with a market business.
- Obedy & Zebedayo: We are still working with them to find out how we can support them.

We will continue to keep you up to date. See you soon!

Best regards,

Joy (Kipepeo Family Foundation)
