No street kids in Tanzania

Many thanks for your support, which meant we were able to complete the project successfully.
Project SummaryA lot of children in Tanzania live on the streets because their families can not take care of them anymore properly due to several reasons. Support Kipepeo with CHF 50 and help families to regain their social and financial independence.

Background

Many families in Kilimanjaro region, Tanzania, fall apart due to different reasons. The problems listed below lead to a lack of finances which would be able to provide basic needs such as food, healthcare, a safe home, clothes, and education. That in turn leads to the fact that many children end up living on the street and in orphanages. There are children who get abandoned and left alone on the street, with the hope that they will be found by one of the local NGO and get the chance to grow up in an orphanage. But the children often run away with the paradox hope to find a better chance of food, safety, and help on the street.
We would like to stop this. Our main work is to help families getting back to their social and financial independence in which parents can raise their children at home. Every child deserves the right of growing up with his/her relatives and every parent deserves the chance to do so. The goal is to not only find fitting solutions for individuals and single families, but to enable the whole community in which our families live in. The benefit of the below described self-sustainability project will be far-reaching and a long-term change will be taking place in the surrounding area.

Social problems:
Due to personal family issues, individual psychical and social problems within the family or community. For example: One partner leaves the other parent behind because they don’t want to take over any responsibility. The parent with the child can’t come up with the money for food, child care etc.
Mental health:
Alcohol- and or drug-addiction leads to a lack of financial resources for the whole family. Often the affected people do not know that they are addicted. Education and knowhow about addictions in communities are rare. Also, many mental health problem are unknown or undiscovered. The abilities to cure the source of the problem are very small without professional intervention, which is sadly very rare too. For example: Mental overload of parents with children with disabilities and flight into alcohol.
Physical Health:
Disabilities, Accidents, Operations, or a long-term disease is often the reason why families are forced to sell what they own, why they loose their jobs and why there are not able to come up for all the necessary basics to live. For example: Accident of a parent without social security systema and long-term physical health problems.
Educational:
A lack of education often exists for children which grew up in financially poor families or tribes in which especially the women are told to marry and care for their children, where no education needed. A lack of education leads to jobs which are poorly paid and jobs which do not obtain a regular income. For example: No fix jobs, but easy work as day laborers washing, cleaning, doing hair, helping on farms, working as carriers.

Idea

It is our objective to own four hectares of land, which is located in Kahe, Kilimanjaro Region, Tanzania. We will use it to create a place to farm and keep animals.
The land lays in a fertile area in which many different greens and basic foods throughout the year can be grown. Not only in the rainy season, but also during the rest of the year there is a river close by, which contains water to water the fields and animals. Keeping the animals, raising, and selling them, using their meat and milk will generate financial income to our NGO and money which can be used for more people in need. During all season’s cows and especially pork is marketable and the most used meat resource for people living in Kilimanjaro region.
Last, but not least it will give us the possibility to enroll a program in which we can provide an animal to a family in need, without using financial donations. Every first-born animal of the one we have donated has to be brought back to us. This will generate a supportive circuit which is independent of finances.

Implementation

The donated money will be used to buy a field for farming. During a later step, small houses and a fence to keep animals will be built. This will generate job opportunities for people in need in the surrounding area.
4-hectare land will cost us: TSH 10’000’000 / USD 4’312 / CHF 3’945
Prepare the field: TSH 1'000’000 / USD 431 / CHF 394
The surrounding community, our NGO and the families in need in the whole Kilimanjaro region will be empowered by the work and profit from it.

Initiators

Me, Joy Baumann, founded Kipepeo Family Foundation together with a local called Nixon Simba. We are a team of 4 people by now, which are working passionately for a more sustainable future of Tanzanian’s families.
All of my team, experienced how it is to live on the street and growing up in an orphanage in their own childhood. I believe that no one better can understand and solve the problems we face now while doing our work here in Tanzania.

Personal statements:

The land is bought!

Fertile land for farming at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, with space for animals and a safe space for people to work at.

This is what we bought and continue now to build up. We are waiting for the season of harvest to be over soon and will then start with building the structure of the farm, the foundation and its buildings. Goal is to have a part of vegetable farming, a house and space for animals and a house for young people to live in. The young people living at this farm and caring for the farm will be those who have no ability to live either back home with their parents nor were they refused to attend any boarding school. We believe that our farm will give them the opportunity to grow into healthy adults. It is a safe place to live and we from the NGO Kipepeo Family Foundation will be able to socialize closely with them. The Farm project is one of those that needs Donor's financial help at its very beginning, but will be self running and self sustainable later. The products that those young people will sell from the farm will not only be a benefit for  them but also for our NGO to be more independent and for its surrounding local people.

With the cows for example, which will be living on this farm, we are going to make a sustainable donation-cycle. Whenever we donate one cow, taken from our farm to a family, we later receive their first born calf from them which is going to be again a donation to another family later.

All in all we are brainstorming, planning and budgeting a lot about our farm project right at this moment and we are looking forward to sharing with you soon our final defined plans.

Thanks to everyone who has been part of our journey so far. You are important and so valuable to us.

A successful project thanks to you!

The donation goal was reached. Now the Kipepeo Family Foundation can buy the farm land and save many children from the street and further support families.

THANK YOU we were able to raise enough funds for starting our Farming Project. Our hearts are full of happiness and we are endlessly glad that you have decided to trust in our project.

You made it possible that we can buy the field for our Farming Project which aims to reduce the amount of Streetchildren living in Kilimanjaro Region, Tanzania. Your donation will have an impact in many lives and a whole community.

As soon as the land is bought, we will update you and share our plans for the future.

You are amazing . Your help is greatly appreciated. :)
