Music project with refugee children and Swiss youths
Project SummaryTo give the children from the asylum center a day full of self-determination and integration, Jennifer would like to start a music project. Support her with a donation of CHF 50.
Even before the catastrophes such as forest fires, floods and war, asylum seekers were drawn to Europe and Switzerland for various reasons. We often only see them as people with a different skin color, foreign language or foreign-looking clothes. What we do not consider: asylum procedures are often long, complicated and very nerve-racking. It is anything but easy to (survive) in a new environment. Especially children suffer from this situation. New people, new country and new language. Often they suffer from trauma and carry the worries of their parents on their little shoulders. They cannot simply be a child. In everyday life they experience rejection and do not even know the reason for it.
A music workshop is to be designed in which the class of Brigitte Tiefenauer from Amden will participate. I am also inviting young people from the Unterterzen upper school to take part. They are to work with the "Bergruh Kids" for a day on a joint music project. Music connects and allows borders to be overcome. To be able to make music together, you don't have to speak the same language. The idea is to make music together. Creativity is given free rein, e.g. not only common instruments are tried out, but also everyday objects are experimented with. Although only one day is planned together, a connection between the two groups will be established. A place is created where friendships and trust can develop. The project will also serve to eliminate prejudices and ignorance. The workshop will take place in the asylum center itself. This will give the young people of the community of Quarten the opportunity to take a look at the everyday life of asylum seekers and to understand how difficult life in Switzerland can be. But also the opportunity to see how the asylum seekers are helped.
The workshop is specially designed by the expert of the traveling sound studio Stefan. He specializes in creating suitable workshops for different scenarios or institutions. The traveling recording studio with its equipment travels to the asylum center and sets up there. In the center there is a room that has been converted into a theater, which is super suitable to start the workshop together. The goal is to end up with a short piece of music. Costs: Rental of a mobile recording studio (incl. hourly rate Stefan): CHF 2400
Tickets for travel to and from the workshop for students & teacher: CHF 110 Total: CHF 2'510 The meals will be provided by the asylum center. The visit of the 7 students from Unterterzen is already joyfully expected.
Jennifer Hug "Thanks to my internship at there-for-you.com I was able to meet many fascinating people with exciting stories and effective projects. Now I'm changing sides and I'll be able to launch a project that is close to my heart and collect donations for its implementation." Unfortunately, our planned music project has to be postponed to the fall for known reasons. However, we are all looking forward and use the time until then with preparations.
The music project with the children from the asylum center and the class of the upper school Quarten was planned for the end of March. Unfortunately, some of the participants fell ill with Corona. Since we absolutely do not want to take any risk, we decided to postpone the project. A new date could be found for September. All participants are already looking forward to it.

Goal reached in the last minute - thank you!
Together we have reached the donation goal. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I am looking forward to the upcoming planning with Stefan from the traveling recording studio, Brigitte, teacher at Bergruh and music teacher Annika from Quarten.
A big thank you goes to my supporters, no matter if relatives, friends or strangers. I appreciate your contribution and I am very happy that you helped me to finance this music project.
Now I am going to take the next steps: I will sit down with Stefan Bregy (traveling recording studio) and we will plan the daily schedule. This will be followed by the project day itself, which will take place in the asylum center. In the implementation update, you can later check out, how this day is going to look like.
Personally, I hope for curious and motivated children and teenagers who do not see cultural differences as a problem, but as an opportunity.

Impact analysis by there for you specialists
The migration experience and the subsequent asylum process is particularly difficult for children because they do not understand the complex causes and dynamics that led to their migration status. At the same time, however, children are naturally very curious and quick learners, so it is important that migrated children are integrated into Swiss society. This project enables exactly this integration and in a playful and creative way - through music. Not only are musical tastes exchanged, but an intercultural space is created that crosses borders. In addition to promoting the integration of the children, this project also gives the Swiss students an insight into the lives of migrants and the asylum process. Thus, mutual understanding is further strengthened and an intercultural exchange in Switzerland is promoted.
