Relief for parents of disabled children
Project SummaryThe Joël Kinderspitex Schweiz foundation cares for over 360 seriously ill children. We provide specialised care services financed by donations, which offer targeted relief for parents. This has a preventive effect against stress and burnout, strengthens the social environment of the families, and sustainably improves the quality of life of the children. We kindly invite you to consider donating to support the valuable work of Joël Kinderspitex.
Background
The foundation Joël Kinderspitex Schweiz cares for more than 360 seriously ill, handicapped or dying children in all cantons of German-speaking Switzerland, parts of French-speaking Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein. With around 270 employees and around 80,000 hours of care per year, it is the largest paediatric Spitex in Switzerland. It provides specialised care services for a precisely defined period of time agreed with the insurance partners. During the "remaining" time, parents are very busy caring for their child. By taking over the care services, Kinderspitex gives parents a few hours or days of respite.

Joël Kinderspitex's vision is to support families with seriously ill children and children with multiple disabilities by providing specialized care services. A central element is to relieve the parents by giving them a few hours or days of respite. The aim is not only to provide care, but also to strengthen relationships with healthy siblings and the social network.
If parents are not relieved of the burden of caring for their seriously ill and/or disabled children, there is a risk of Stress, withdrawal, despair, depression and burnout. In addition to the siblings, the whole social environment of the family suffers.

Implementation
A concrete example shows how important donations are for our work:
The Koller family's two sons, Moritz and Leo (names changed by the editor), suffer from Duchenne muscular atrophy, a degenerative disease. They are in a home during school hours and at home during school holidays. The intensity of care is constantly increasing and the children have to be repositioned four to seven times during the night. The older son, Moritz, is particularly in need of support. Their mother, Andrea, is exhausted by the nightly tasks and turns to the Joël Kinderspitex Foundation to ask if someone could move her sons once a week during the night so that she can get at least one uninterrupted night's sleep.
Thanks to your donations, the Koller family, for example, can be helped in the following way:
The costs are covered by donations from individuals, foundations, parishes and companies. Donations are important because many urgently needed services are unfortunately not funded by health insurance, disability insurance, municipalities or cantons.

Thanks to your donations, the Koller family, for example, can be helped in the following way:
- Night-time repositioning: Specialist staff from the Joël Kinderspitex Foundation take care of the night-time repositioning of the sons once a week during the school holidays. This covers a period of 6 weeks (1/2 of the annual school holidays) x 7 hours. One hour of care costs CHF 122.
- Relief for the mother: This support allows the mother to sleep through the night and get some much-needed rest.
- Improving the sons' quality of life: The care intervention helps to improve the sons' quality of life by providing professional care for their night-time needs.
The costs are covered by donations from individuals, foundations, parishes and companies. Donations are important because many urgently needed services are unfortunately not funded by health insurance, disability insurance, municipalities or cantons.
