A second floor for the school in Siaqol
Project SummaryThe school in Siaqol continues to grow: with CHF 10,000, we are enabling the second stage of the school construction—the building of the upper floor, which was part of the project from the outset and can now be realized thanks to further donations.
Background
A lot has happened in the remote village of Siaqol in the mountains of Afghanistan's Ghazni province over the past year. Thanks to the tremendous commitment of the local population and the support of many donors, construction of the new school was able to begin in August 2025.
Behind the existing school, the excavation pit was dug and the subsoil leveled. The foundations and reinforcements were laid on the 21x12-meter site. The foundations, supports, and ceiling of the basement were then concreted. The supports and ceiling of the ground floor are currently being built—a major step forward for the children and young people of Siaqol, who until now have been taught in very basic conditions.
There was great joy at this progress: a small inauguration ceremony has already been held together with the students.

Idea
From the outset, the plan was to build the school in two stages: first the basement and ground floor, then the upper floor. As the funds available so far have only been sufficient for the first stage, a new crowdfunding campaign is now being launched to finance the second part.
The construction of the upper floor will create additional classrooms so that all children and young people from Siaqol and the surrounding area can be taught at the same time in the future. This will complete the original construction plan and improve learning conditions in the village in the long term.

Implementation
Construction of the second floor is scheduled to begin as soon as winter is over. With a target amount of CHF 10,000, the necessary building materials can be procured and the next construction phase can be implemented starting in spring 2026. As with the first phase, the work will be carried out in collaboration with local specialists and the residents of Siaqol, who are actively assisting with the project.

The two-stage school construction project in Siaqol is a prime example of how sustainable development cooperation is based on local roots. The clear phasing—first the foundation and ground floor, now the second floor—creates transparency and allows implementation to be adapted to the available resources. Compassion in the Right Place's approach of directly involving local professionals and villagers strengthens personal responsibility and trust. Especially in a region like Ghazni, where educational infrastructure is scarce, the project makes an important contribution to stability, future prospects, and social cohesion.
