A second floor for the school in Siaqol
Project SummaryThe school in Siaqol continues to grow: with CHF 10,000, we are enabling the second stage of the school construction—the building of the upper floor, which was part of the project from the outset and can now be realized thanks to further donations.
A lot has happened in the remote village of Siaqol in the mountains of Afghanistan's Ghazni province over the past year. Thanks to the tremendous commitment of the local population and the support of many donors, construction of the new school was able to begin in August 2025. Behind the existing school, the excavation pit was dug and the subsoil leveled. The foundations and reinforcements were laid on the 21x12-meter site. The foundations, supports, and ceiling of the basement were then concreted. The supports and ceiling of the ground floor are currently being built—a major step forward for the children and young people of Siaqol, who until now have been taught in very basic conditions. There was great joy at this progress: a small inauguration ceremony has already been held together with the students.
From the outset, the plan was to build the school in two stages: first the basement and ground floor, then the upper floor. As the funds available so far have only been sufficient for the first stage, a new crowdfunding campaign is now being launched to finance the second part. The construction of the upper floor will create additional classrooms so that all children and young people from Siaqol and the surrounding area can be taught at the same time in the future. This will complete the original construction plan and improve learning conditions in the village in the long term.
Construction of the second floor is scheduled to begin as soon as winter is over. With a target amount of CHF 10,000, the necessary building materials can be procured and the next construction phase can be implemented starting in spring 2026. As with the first phase, the work will be carried out in collaboration with local specialists and the residents of Siaqol, who are actively assisting with the project.
Our aid organization, Compassion in the Right Place, supports people in need in Afghanistan and Pakistan. We collect donations to implement projects in these countries that make life easier and better for poor people. Our goal is to provide as much direct aid as possible through our own local contacts. Our members are all volunteers. This enables us to minimize administrative costs and expenses. Compassion in the Right Place is an association within the meaning of Art. 60 of the Swiss Civil Code (ZGB). Second construction phase completed – the school continues to take shape
Thanks to your support, the second construction phase has also been successfully completed. Work on the interior and final completion of the school is already underway.
Great news from Siaqol: Thanks to the support of our donors, the second construction phase of the new school has been successfully completed. This marks another important milestone, with the planned upper floor now fully realised.
But the work is already continuing. Step by step, the school is being completed: the façade has been fully plastered and will soon be painted blue. The solar system has also been installed and will contribute to the school’s future energy supply.
A separate small building with toilets has been constructed next to the school for the sanitary facilities. At the same time, the window frames were produced locally, and work on designing the school courtyard is already underway. The next steps include further interior work as well as the installation of windows, doors and the kitchen.
What was once a construction site is increasingly becoming a fully equipped school. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who is helping make this progress possible for the children and young people of Siaqol.
