School furniture for the new high school in northern Tanzania
Project SummaryThanks to donations, a new high school was built in northern Tanzania. This will enable the proud students to continue their education at a university. Now we need your support for the purchase of tables and chairs, because it is better to study sitting down!
As a volunteer at Africa Amini Alama (AAA), a Tanzanian NGO with Austrian roots, I (Helga Dancke) was able to experience for the first time 6 years ago how education changes people's self-confidence. Although schooling is compulsory in Tanzania, many children do not have access to sufficient education. The state schools are often so poorly equipped that children are still illiterate in the 2nd or 3rd grade. To support the often hungry families, AAA has been building English-language schools in a bitterly poor area in northern Tanzania since 2008, where the children are also provided with food. Having already built three primary schools, a secondary school, a vocational school and a computer class, a high school has now also been built thanks to donations. This will enable the proud students to continue their education at a university. In order to provide the students with the best possible education, we now need your support for the purchase of furniture.
The aim of AAA is to build a complete school career for children from the poorest families in the Maasai and Meru area.
This means that children from Montesori Kindergarten through Primary and Secondary School to High School graduation can attend the English-language, state-run AAA schools, giving the students the tools to earn their own living in the future, support their families and shape their country with new perspectives. "We need better education, and here we have found what we need in primary school. We would be very happy if we got the chance to return here to attend high school" (Pamoja Secondary School student).
In the last 3 years, two new schools have been built. The "Pamoja Secondary School" in Maasai Land and the "Africa Amini Alama Secondary School for Sustainable Tourism" in Momella. To complete the school career, the Pamoja High School will be opened in 2023. All projects are financed by donations, which enable the gradual construction and expansion. The construction measures for the high school have already been completed. But now the donations for the furniture, i.e. tables and chairs, are still missing. A set of tables and chairs costs CHF 65. A total of 80 sets are needed. AAA also runs a vocational school for bricklayers, carpenters, car mechanics, welders and tailors. The furniture for the new Pamoja High School is built jointly by carpenters and welders in these own vocational school workshops. This creates a feeling of togetherness between the students of the different school types.
Africa Amini Alama was founded in 2008 by the Austrian doctor Dr. Dr. Christina Wallner in Momella (Arusha District), in northern Tanzania. In 2010, she was followed by her daughter, the physician Dr. Cornelia Wallner-Frisée, who today heads the NGO in Tanzania. Christine Wallner has put all her trust, heart and soul and not least her financial resources into supporting the local population. Health, education, balanced nutrition and sustainable tourism are the main fields of activity. I have been a volunteer and board member of Africa Amini Alama Switzerland since my retirement in 2017.
Successful implementation: New high school in Tanzania starts in June
The project "School Furniture for the New High School in Northern Tanzania" was successfully completed a few weeks ago. The initiator of the project now reports about her experiences on site.
Dear donors
It is a great pleasure for me to be able to experience the gratitude for your support directly on site. The 80 tables and chairs have already been made in Africa Amini Alama's own workshops. The graduates of the Secondary School are now excitedly waiting for the start of the new High School in June. They are not idle during this time: they are assisting as substitute teachers, are involved in a 6-week solar project, etc.
I hope that we will meet again soon in a new project.
Thank you very much- Nashukuru from Momella, in the north of Tanzania.
Helga Dancke
A huge thank you to all donors - and to all those who still want to donate.
It is done! In two respects: The students of Pamoja Secondary School have passed their exams and the money for the missing chairs and tables for their new high school is available thanks to your donations.
The students of Pamoja Secondary School were the first classes to graduate in December and were celebrated in a big party. In addition to the families and teachers, and of course Dr. Cornelia Wallner-Frisée, members of the district government also took part in the celebration. The students thanked AFRICA AMINI ALAMA and the other sponsors with dance, singing and acrobatic performances. The students are aware that they only have a chance for education thanks to them. They are already looking forward to continuing their education at the new Pamoja High School or at a college next year.
Thanks to you, the money for the chairs and tables that are still missing at Pamoja High School is now available. The photos are of the students of the Fundi Centre (Handicraft Vocational School) building this furniture under the guidance of their teachers. Donations over and above the need for the furniture will be used for the school books for the high school that have not yet been financed.

Impact analysis by there for you specialists
In northern Tanzania, many children have no access to education. Especially in the land of the Maasai, the financial means are lacking to enable the children to receive a school education. Thanks to this project, the pupils have the opportunity to continue their academic careers. They are thus well prepared for a successful future. The initiators (Africa Amini Alama) have already carried out several projects in this region in the past and therefore have a large local network.
