For a cow to give milk, she must give birth to a calf every year. But insemination is not always successful. If the cow does not bear, she will no longer produce the desired yield in the foreseeable future. That means she has to go to the slaughterhouse. People simply take the right to decide on the life of a healthy, young and dear animal for no comprehensible reason. This cruelty, this thoughtlessness of humans towards an animal must come to an end.
For three years I lived and worked on a farm near Thun, Canton Bern. There I got to know the two cows Davia and Athena and grew fond of them. When I learned that Davia and Athena had to be slaughtered, my world collapsed.
Our moments full of trust
When I met Davia and Athena on the farm 3.5 years ago, it was love at first sight. I immediately established a personal relationship with them and experienced many precious moments with them.
Davia refused to go back to the stable practically every time she had to go from the pasture and I quickly understood that she was afraid of the slatted floor. By accompanying her to her place every time from then on, I was able to take away her fear bit by bit. And thus gained her trust.
Athena has also grown very fond of me with her exuberant and curious nature. Although she is rather suspicious of people, she became more and more trusting of me and finally always greeted me in the morning with her mooing.
