Support families in Myanmar
Project SummaryDue to the Corona pandemic and the military putsch, Thein has lost his job as a tourist guide and with it his income. To get through these difficult times, he needs financial support. Help Thein and his family with a donation!
💙💛🕊💛💚❤️ Solidarity with other countries will never be as clear as in times of crisis. Ukraine is a tragic example of this that concerns me greatly. But there are other countries where there is a lot of suffering and innocent people are dying every day. One of them is particularly close to my heart: Myanmar. I traveled to this country in Southeast Asia, previously also called Burma, a few years ago. There I met the fun-loving tourist guide Thein, who lives in the city of Bagan. The long-lasting pandemic, and with it the absence of tourists, caused Thein to lose his income and his joy. And it got worse: in February 2021, the military putsched the government and the country sank into chaos. There were vicious demonstrations in major cities, with civilians brutally injured and even killed. The military set fire to buildings and did not shy away from air strikes. Thanks to its location outside the major cities, Bagan has been spared from destruction. But even there, people went out on the streets to protest against the dictatorship. Luckily, the demonstrations were more peaceful. Since then, exactly one year has passed, but the situation has not improved. Even today, people are still shooting at their own people, at civilians. It is a humanitarian catastrophe. Thein, his family and the entire neighborhood suffer primarily from the economic consequences. Many who lived from tourism no longer have jobs - no longer earn money. That is why we sent money. With $150 he was able to provide for 10 families in this way - with this being enough for about two days.
Thein wrote us the following message and then asked us for help: "The prices for food and goods are doubling. There is no electricity or water. Health care works poorly or not at all, and this in timesa of a pandemic. The country has declared a state of emergency. We have lost so many lives." That's why we're now planning an even bigger campaign to help the people in need. The money will be available to Thein directly so he can buy the products needed for his family, friends and neighbors. This is primarily food, but also medical and hygiene products. Here you can participate in the donation campaign - it is not the amount of money that decides, but the amount of good will. People need our support.
We will send the collected money to Thein via Western Union. Last time we did it the same way and it worked without any problems. He was able to withdraw the money and use it to buy urgently needed products for his family and friends. From this big campaign Thein will again primarily buy food. If something else is urgently needed on site, such as medical supplies or roof repair, a part can be used for that as well. Thein will keep us updated on how the donations will be used. So you can get an idea of what your donation can do: For 70$ = 50kg of rice, For 80$ = 16L of cooking oil, For 3$ = 10 eggs, For 16$ = drinking water supply for 1 month. Food prices vary greatly! If more donations are received, the aid can be expanded accordingly
Tanja & Marie-Joëlle: We are two friends who met 10 years ago at work. Together we traveled the country a few years ago and were welcomed very openly. Thein was the name of our guide, who looked after us and guided us throughout the trip. He lives with his family in modest circumstances, where he once invited us to dinner and cooked elaborately. About Marie-Joëlle: I am very active and like to move around in nature, like hiking or jogging. To me, Tanja: I like to move very much and exhaust myself with strength training and jumping. Because we like to help people in need and want to do good, we have already participated a few times in the PluSport Day, the largest sports day for disabled people in Switzerland, as helpers.
Dear donor, we thank you very much for your donation for our project. As soon as we receive the money, we will send it to Thein. He will use it wisely and buy a first load of food.
We have made it! Thanks to your support, we have reached our goal of collecting CHF 1,000. We thank you very much for that! The money will be sent to Thein as announced. He will use it wisely and keep us informed. You have done good with your contribution and you can be proud of that. The world is unfair, but with our action we can help people in need. If you don't already know us personally, and would like to be kept informed about how Thein, his family and neighbors are doing, please feel free to contact us at tanjaschi@gmx.ch.
We wish you all the best - thank you again!
Best regards Tanja and Marie-Joëlle

Myanmar is one of the countries that are heavily dependent on tourism. Due to the COVID19 pandemic and the military putsch a year ago, security and travel demand for this country have abruptly collapsed. The population must completely reorganize and find new sources of income. Until this happens, many families are in urgent need of financial support to feed themselves, continue going to school and find a new job.
