Emergency aid for the earthquake victims in Nepal
Project SummaryFollowing a devastating earthquake in the Karnali region of western Nepal on November 3, 2023, the Chay Ya Network launched an immediate fundraising campaign. This made it possible to quickly distribute the first relief supplies to people in need, especially in remote areas and to marginalized ethnic groups such as the Dalits.
Background
On 3 November 2023, an earthquake in the Karnali region of western Nepal caused extensive damage. Many houses were destroyed, more than 300 people died and winter is approaching.

The Chay Ya network with organisations in Austria, Liechtenstein, the US and Switzerland immediately started collecting donations and was therefore able to distribute the first relief supplies very quickly.
The people in need are to receive emergency aid with the most important goods. Chay Ya provides support in the most remote areas where no aid has yet arrived, and our aim is to support marginalised ethnic groups such as the Dalits.

Implementation
The most important relief supplies such as sleeping bags, blankets, clothes, food, tarpaulins and cooking utensils are purchased locally and driven to the remote villages near the epicentre by Chay Ya Nepal employees. A large proportion of the goods must then be carried by the villagers to their villages and are then distributed there.
A family receives the following goods:
CHF 60 is enough to feed a family of four for a month and provide them with a tarpaulin and blankets. We have already been able to support 450 families with a total of 2250 people! There are 60,000 families living in the affected area who are dependent on help to withstand the coming winter. Together with you, we would like to support at least 250 more families with the essentials as quickly as possible.
