Minibus for Druschba in Ukraine - Daniel Koch

Project SummaryThe war-torn border town of Drushba in Ukraine urgently needs support. A minibus is needed to provide safe transport for the remaining, mostly elderly residents to essential services. Help now with a donation to bring back mobility and hope!

Background

Drushba is a small border town in north-eastern Ukraine, just a few kilometres from Russia. At the start of the war, the Sumy region was largely spared, but from spring 2023 onwards, the situation deteriorated dramatically. After several attacks, the town hall was completely destroyed by a 500 kg aerial bomb. Due to the destruction, the CHF 15,000 donation from there for you could not be used for reconstruction, but was instead used in part to fund holidays for children in need, with the remainder being managed as a social emergency fund.
Since the beginning of 2024, Drushba has been cut off from rail transport because the station and tracks have been attacked several times. About half of the inhabitants have fled, but around 3,000 people, mainly elderly people with very small pensions, continue to live in constant fear and isolation. The only connection to the nearest town is a bumpy, two-hour drive along a damaged country road, which is privately organised and involves high costs. The municipality therefore organises weekly free minibus transport for those in need – but this solution can only be financed in the short term.

Idea

The community of Drushba on the Russian border urgently needs its own minibus to provide basic mobility for its few remaining residents, who are often elderly and in need. Many live on a minimal state pension and cultivate small gardens – but they depend on the community's social transport service for visits to the doctor, shopping or trips to the authorities.
With the donations collected, we want to purchase a reliable second-hand minibus (9 to a maximum of 15 seats) in Switzerland and hand it over directly to the community. In this way, we are creating a permanent, free transport option that gives the people of Druschba back a piece of independence and quality of life despite war and isolation.

Implementation

As soon as sufficient funds have been raised, a suitable, reliable minibus will be purchased. Daniel, who is personally overseeing the project, will drive the vehicle to Druschba himself and hand it over directly to the community. We estimate that the purchase will cost around CHF 15,000. Any additional funds will be made available to the community for ongoing operating costs (maintenance, fuel, travel). This ensures that every donation is put to good use and makes a lasting improvement to the lives of the people in Druschba.
