Freedom and hope of life through wells for Benin.
Project SummaryThe project aims to alleviate the water shortage in the villages of LANMANOU and OKEMERE-KERE in Benin by building two hand-operated water wells. These will give the 5,089 inhabitants access to clean water, thereby reducing social and humanitarian problems such as food insecurity and child mortality.
Background
Water is the source of life. ‘Thousands have lived without love, but not one without water,’ said H. Auden. The lack of water in the villages of LANMANOU (523 households, 3025 inhabitants) and OKEMERE-KERE (289 households, 2064 inhabitants), Benin Centre, has led to critical socio-humanitarian problems such as acute thirst, food shortages due to production losses, and high child morbidity and mortality.
Living in a water-scarce area poses many more threats and risks to children, girls and women. Girls and women spend a lot of time walking long distances all day in search of water. This situation causes loss of income for women, exacerbates gender inequality and injustice and gives rise to human rights violations, social marginalisation, forced marriage and abduction of girls and women.

Idea
One hope for life that there-for-you.com can help with is that people (women, girls and children) in remote areas can lead a self-determined and dignified life, stay healthy and have a higher life expectancy. Groundwater creates such hope. A water well is good for the environment and for humanity. It provides clean water, better nutrients for plants, longer life expectancy (no limescale), better management of dried up and polluted surface water as the main source of water for villagers in Benin.
Through the construction of 2 hand-operated water wells, our project aims to provide water facilities (risk-free, nearby, clean and inexhaustible water sources) for people and the economy, giving the 5089 marginalised and excluded inhabitants of LANMANOU and OKEMERE-KERE in the DASSA commune a sense of belonging to the country of Benin.
