A chance for the future – help for Yazidi children and women in refugee camps.
Project SummaryThousands of Yazidi women and children are living traumatised in refugee camps in northern Iraq after suffering violence at the hands of IS – without safe supplies, education or medical assistance. We provide trauma therapy, schooling, emergency aid and income to enable them to build a self-determined future. Help now to stabilise lives and restore hope.
Background
Since being driven out by IS in 2014, over 350,000 Yazidis have been living in precarious conditions in northern Iraq. Women in particular have suffered unimaginable hardship: many were abducted, abused and traumatised. It is still virtually impossible for them to return to their home region of Sinjar – ongoing security risks, Turkish air strikes and a lack of infrastructure make it impossible to live there safely. The refugee camps in the province of Duhok lack medical care, education and prospects. The political situation is unstable and economic uncertainty shapes everyday life. Women and girls are particularly disadvantaged in many ways and urgently need protection and support. Targeted assistance is needed to strengthen their self-esteem, help them process traumatic experiences and open up new prospects for the future. Only then can they make a fresh start.

Implementation
The project is supported by various components: local contributions, support from Crosspoint Europe, volunteer work and additional third-party funding form the basis for sustainable aid. Every single donation supplements these contributions and enables the most important activities to be carried out:
Close cooperation with the Jinda Centre, a women-led organisation with strong local support, creates a solid and sustainable foundation for the implementation of the project. The Jinda Centre has established networks with local authorities, hospitals and the High Council of Women's Affairs, which facilitates the coordination and reach of activities. The support provided by Crosspoint Europe further strengthens these local structures, offers beneficiaries long-term prospects and improves their quality of life in a sustainable manner.

- Medical and psychological care: Traumatised women and children receive professional trauma therapy, individual and group psychological sessions and support during visits to the doctor.
- Social activities & education: Women and young people are supported through practical courses in tailoring, gardening and cooking to create income opportunities. Literacy courses, first aid training and educational opportunities open up new prospects for the future.
